Hey Hog Riders or Golems, today we will talk about the traps which look good in defense but are annoying in attacks. Traps are the entities in your base that remain hidden until enemy troops come in their range. There are 7 types of traps and each has unique effects. Once there was a time when some traps also had favorite targets, For instance, giant bombs had 1.5x damage against hog riders. But now all traps deal the same damage to all troops.
When a troop comes in a trap’s range, the trap triggers and deals various effects. A trap can only be used once and have to rearm it to use it again. Unused traps don’t need rearming. Several years ago, you had to manually rearm the traps with gold. But now just open the COC and all triggered traps will be rearmed for free automatically. In wars, there is no need to rearm them.

Bomb

Bomb is the first trap of the game and is weakest of all. But can be deadly for small troops and if placed in groups, then will deal more damage to the troops. Strength in Unity they say, right? It has 1 tile size, 1 tile trigger radius and deals damage to all the troops within 3 tiles. Bomb’s max level is 10. Check out the following table:
Bomb Level | Damage | Upgrade Cost (Gold) | Upgrading Time | TH Required |
1 | 20 | 400 | — | 3 |
2 | 24 | 1K | 6 Minutes | 3 |
3 | 29 | 10K | 2 Hours | 5 |
4 | 35 | 100K | 8 Hours | 7 |
5 | 42 | 300K | 18 Hours | 8 |
6 | 54 | 600K | 1D 12 Hours | 9 |
7 | 72 | 1.2M | 3 Days | 10 |
8 | 92 | 2.5M | 4 Days | 11 |
9 | 125 | 4M | 6 Days | 13 |
10 | 140 | 6M | 8 Days | 14 |
As bombs have low damage and are only deadly to low HP troops like barbarians, archers, wall breakers etc., you can use high HP troops like Giants, PEKKA, Golems to trigger them. And if you know the location of the bomb, use a barbarian or archer to activate it if you can. Bombs don’t deal damage to air troops, so you can air strategy.
Giant Bomb

Giant bomb has 2 tiles size, 2 tiles trigger radius and deals damage to all troops within 3-4 tiles radius. It’s the bigger version of the bomb, very deadly for medium HP troops such as Giants, Hogs, Valkyries, Witches etc. and take down low HP troops instantly. Check out the following table for more information:
Levels | Damage | Area of Effect (in Tiles) | Upgrading Cost (Gold) | Upgrading Time | TH Required |
1 | 175 | 3 | 12.5K | — | 6 |
2 | 200 | 3.5 | 75K | 6 Hours | 6 |
3 | 225 | 3.5 | 600K | 1 Day | 8 |
4 | 250 | 4 | 2.4M | 3 Days | 10 |
5 | 275 | 4 | 3.5M | 5 Days | 11 |
6 | 328 | 4 | 5M | 7 Days | 13 |
7 | 375 | 4 | 7M | 9 Days | 13 |
8 | 400 | 4 | 9M | 11 Days | 14 |
To save your troops from it, you can use Barbarian King, PEKKA or Golem like high HP troops to take the damage. Or if you know the location and trigger it, then use a barbarian or goblin. And in the middle of base, use healing spells to save the groups if you’re on TH10 or below. And on higher town halls, they are not a big threat because of the Grand Warden. But use healing in Hogs Attack.
Spring Trap

Spring traps are the most annoying traps with no damage. And they don’t need any damage at all. Their bouncy effect is enough that throws the troops out of the base. But there is a limit to how much it can bounce. It’s size is 1 tile and only triggers when troops step foot on it. Check out the following table for more information:
Level | Spring Capacity | Upgrading Cost (Gold) | Upgrading Time | TH Required |
1 | 10 | 2K | — | 4 |
2 | 12 | 300K | 12 Hours | 7 |
3 | 14 | 500K | 18 Hours | 8 |
4 | 16 | 900K | 1 Day 12 Hours | 9 |
5 | 18 | 1.5M | 3 Days | 10 |
Heroes, PEKKAs and Golems are too heavy for spring traps and spring traps can’t throw them (because of housing space of the troops more than its spring capacity). Troops with high movement speed like Valkyries & Goblins have some chance of escaping from these traps. Spring traps are usually found between wall gaps and near the defensive buildings. You can use PEKKA & King to trigger it.
Air Bomb

Air bomb has 1 tile size, 4 tiles trigger radius and deals damage to all troops within 3 tiles radius. When an air troop comes in its range, it pops-up from the ground, flies to that troop and explodes on contact. It can kill minions and decrease Balloons & Baby Dragons HP so much, but is no serious threat to high HP air troops like Dragons, Electro-dragons. Check the following table for more information:
Level | Damage | Upgrading Cost | Upgrading Time | TH Required |
1 | 100 | 4K | — | 5 |
2 | 120 | 20K | 4 Hours | 5 |
3 | 144 | 200K | 12 Hours | 7 |
4 | 173 | 800K | 1 Day | 9 |
5 | 200 | 2.5M | 2 Days | 11 |
6 | 228 | 3M | 3 Days | 12 |
7 | 248 | 4M | 6 Days | 13 |
8 | 270 | 5M | 7 Days | 13 |
9 | 290 | 7M | 9 Days | 14 |
If you suspect an air bomb at a certain location, use a Minion or a Balloon to trigger it if you can. Or use high HP troops such as Dragons, Electro-dragons & Lava Hounds to trigger them. You can ignore the air bomb’s effects on these troops. And never deploy minions in groups.
Seeking Air Mine

Seeking Air Mine is the most dangerous trap for high HP air troops like Dragons, Electro-dragons, Dragon Rider & Lava Hounds. It’s size is 1 tile and has 4 tiles trigger radius. It’s a single-target air trap. When an air troop comes into its range, it will pop-up from the ground and follow it until it touches it. And on contact, it deals massive damage to that troop. The most dangerous thing about it is: it never loses its target and follows it even to the opposite corner of the base. And if the target dies before the seeking air mine comes in contact, it will follow another nearest air troop. It can defeat the Grand Warden alone. Check out the following table:
Level | Damage | Upgrading Cost (Gold) | Upgrading Time | TH Required |
1 | 1500 | 15K | — | 7 |
2 | 1800 | 1M | 1 Day | 9 |
3 | 2100 | 2.5M | 3 Days | 10 |
4 | 2400 | 6M | 7 Days | 13 |
Minions can’t trigger the seeking air mine. And it’s bad news. TH12+ players place seeking air mines at the four edges of the base, so that attackers can’t funnel with Electro-dragons. You can use a balloon before Electro-dragon to trigger it.
Skeleton Trap

Skeleton traps are the only traps in COC that can be set for either ground or air and the summoned skeletons will continue to attack your troops until your troops kill them. Its size is 1 tile, has 5 tiles trigger radius and is single-target trap. When a troop comes in its range, a coffin comes out from the ground and then multiple skeletons come out of it. They will start attacking the nearby troops. When set on air, it will only be triggered by air troops and its skeletons attack only air troops. Likewise, only ground troops can trigger a skeleton trap set for ground and its skeletons will only attack ground troops. Check out the following table for more information:
Level | Number of Skeletons | Upgrading Cost (Gold) | Upgrading Time | TH Required |
1 | 2 | 6K | — | 8 |
2 | 3 | 450K | 5 Hours | 8 |
3 | 4 | 1.2M | 20 Hours | 9 |
4 | 5 | 2M | 1 Day 16 Hours | 10 |
Skeleton Traps are very effective against the troops who target defensive buildings only. If you use mass hogs or balloons attack, then taking one more poison to kill skeletons will not hurt.
Tornado Trap

There is only one Tornado trap in COC and it is also very annoying. It’s size is 1 tile and has 3 tiles trigger radius. It targets both ground & air troops. When a troop comes in its range, it releases a tornado that sucks all the troops present within its 3 tiles radius. Troops inside it will not be able to advance. It also deals 8 DPS to the troops for a certain period of time. Check the following table:
Level | Damage Per Second | Duration (Seconds) | Upgrading Cost (Gold) | Upgrading Time | TH Required |
1 | 8 | 5 | 3M | — | 11 |
2 | 8 | 6 | 4M | 2 Days | 11 |
3 | 8 | 7 | 5M | 3 Days | 12 |
Tornado trap is deadly for bats and can kill them easily if bats are not inside Grand Warden’s Life Aura. Bats can’t trigger it and it’s good. But troops can trigger it. When using any attacks involving bats, try not to use bat spells from the same side of the troops.
Traps in Builder Village
- Push Traps
- Spring Traps
- Mine
- Mega Mine
Push Traps

Push Trap occupies 2×2 tiles space and has one tile trigger radius. When a troop comes in its range or above it, it activates and throws them 3.5 tiles away in the chosen direction. It has no damage and only works on ground troops. When you tap on the trap, it shows an “x” mark at 3.5 tiles distance. It’s the location where the troops will be thrown by it. You can change the trap’s direction. But it has a capacity for how many troops it can throw. Check the following table for more information:
Level | Spring Capacity | Upgrading Cost | Upgrading Time | BH Required |
1 | 6 | 1K | — | 2 |
2 | 8 | 3K | 5 Minutes | 3 |
3 | 10 | 10K | 20 Minutes | 3 |
4 | 15 | 20K | 2 Hours | 4 |
5 | 20 | 40L | 4 Hours | 5 |
6 | 25 | 60K | 6 Hours | 6 |
7 | 30 | 100K | 8 Hours | 7 |
8 | 35 | 200K | 10 Hours | 8 |
9 | 40 | 300K | 12 Hours | 9 |
In COC, COC only provides the information about the number of units per camp in the Builder Hall. But the troop’s weight is not given. Check out the following table for the troop’s weight:
Troop Name | Weight |
Raged Barbarian | 2 |
Sneaky Archer | 2 |
Boxer Giant | 8 |
Bomber | 4 |
Cannon Cart | 8 |
Night Witch | 12 |
Drop Ship’s Skeleton | 1 |
Super PEKKA | 25 |
Hog Glider | 12 |
Spring Traps

Spring Traps work the same as the Spring Traps of the Home Village. But it has different attributes. Check the following table:
Level | Spring Capacity | Upgrading Cost | Upgrading Time | BH Required |
1 | 8 | 10K | — | 3 |
2 | 12 | 30K | 1 Hour | 4 |
3 | 16 | 100K | 8 Hours | 6 |
4 | 20 | 300K | 12 Hours | 8 |
Battle Machine and Super PEKKAs are perfect choices to trigger spring traps as it has no effect on them. Or use a raged barbarian to trigger them.
Mine

Mine is an explosion trap in Builder Base. It’s size is 1 tile and has 4 tiles trigger radius. When a troop comes in its range, it will explode and deal damage to all the troops within its 5 tiles radius. It also pushes the troops a little backward. You can set the mine to ground or air and will deal damage to the respective troops. When set on air, it will not follow troops like air mines and explodes on its location. Check out the following table:
Level | Damage | Upgrading Cost | Upgrading Time | BH Required |
1 | 50 | 5K | — | 3 |
2 | 55 | 8K | 20 Minutes | 3 |
3 | 61 | 12K | 30 Minutes | 3 |
4 | 67 | 25K | 1 Hours | 4 |
5 | 74 | 50K | 2 Hours | 5 |
6 | 81 | 80K | 3 Hours | 6 |
7 | 89 | 120K | 4 Hours | 7 |
8 | 98 | 250K | 5 Hours | 8 |
9 | 110 | 500K | 6 Hours | 9 |
Mines have low damage but are effective against Raged Barbarians, Sneaky Archers, Minions & Bombers. On high HP troops, you can ignore their effects. When using Beta Minions, always deploy them after Drop Ships to trigger the mines first. Or use a minion if you don’t have Drop Ships. On ground, you can use Battle Machine, Boxer Giants & Super PEKKAs.
Mega Mine
Mega mine is the stronger & bigger version of the mine. It occupies 2×2 tiles in the base and has 3 tiles trigger radius. It can be set on either ground or air. It explodes when a troop comes in its range and deals massive damage to all the troops within 4 tiles. Check the following table for more information:
Level | Damage | Upgrading Cost | Upgrading Time | BH Required |
1 | 200 | 30K | — | 4 |
2 | 220 | 40K | 1 Hour | 4 |
3 | 244 | 50K | 3 Hours | 4 |
4 | 268 | 80K | 6 Hours | 4 |
5 | 296 | 120K | 8 Hours | 5 |
6 | 324 | 300K | 10 Hours | 6 |
7 | 356 | 600K | 12 Hours | 7 |
8 | 392 | 1M | 1 Day | 8 |
9 | 431 | 1.4M | 1 Day 12 Hours | 9 |
Mega Mines can easily kill Beta Minions, Night Witches, Bombers, Baby Dragons & Cannon Carts and also deal some pretty damage to high HP troops such as Hog Gliders, Drop Ships & Battle Machine.
